PHILADELPHIA, PA – Another organization with national reach has joined civil rights lawyer Larry Krasner in his bid for the Democratic nomination for Philadelphia District Attorney. On Monday, the Real Justice PAC endorsed Krasner, bringing additional staff and technical expertise to the volunteer-heavy campaign.
“Philadelphia is the most incarcerated city in the country,” said Real Justice’s Becky Bond, previously a senior adviser to the Bernie Sanders presidential campaign. “It’s time for a modern District Attorney, and Larry Krasner is the only candidate that we can trust to take decisive action to end cash bail, address the mass incarceration crisis, hold police accountable and make our neighborhoods safer for everyone who lives and works in Philadelphia.”
Last week Krasner’s campaign was endorsed by three other national organizations: Color of Change PAC, Democracy for America, and Our Revolution, as well as the 6000-strong Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals (PASNAP) and the environmental group Food & Water Action Fund.
“City by city, state by state, we have to elect progressive prosecutors,” said Krasner. “National groups are recognizing who the real progressive in this race is. As District Attorney I’ll have the opportunity to push back hard against Donald Trump and Jeff Sessions, and I’m going to take it.”
The Real Justice PAC works to elect reform-minded prosecutors at the county and city level who are committed to using the powers of their office to promote public safety, achieve justice, fight structural racism and defend our communities from abuse by government power. The organization has three full-time staff on the ground in Philadelphia using tech-enabled, volunteer-led organizing tactics to get out the vote on May 16.
