When Larry Krasner kicked off his campaign for district attorney in downtown Philadelphia in early February, more than a dozen political activists stood behind him. There were Black Lives Matter leaders, Occupy Philly alumni, and Arch Street United Methodist Church pastors, among others, almost all of whom Krasner has defended in court.

Civil rights lawyer Lawrence Krasner has joined the race for Philadelphia District Attorney, becoming one of five Democrats (and one Republican) looking to oust incumbent Seth Williams. 

Krasner, 56, announced his candidacy while surrounded by activists and organizers yesterday evening in Center City, vowing to push for decarceration, fair law enforcement treatment toward minority and poor communities and the abolition of the death penalty.

Lawrence Krasner, a longtime civil rights lawyer and death-penalty opponent, announced Wednesday that he will run for district attorney of Philadelphia.

Addressing an enthusiastic crowd of fellow lawyers and liberal activists in Center City, Krasner, 56, said he would make the city safer by pursuing justice that doesn't unnecessarily incarcerate minorities and the poor.
