If he wins, Krasner has said he will stop imprisoning people who can’t pay bail, effectively abolish the death penalty, maintain Philadelphia’s sanctuary city commitments, and prohibit prosecutions based on “illegal stop and frisk” tactics. The bespectacled progressive has been endorsed by national organizations like Our Revolution, Color of Change, and Democracy for America. The primary will take place on May 16.

UNITE HERE Locals Join Campaign to Elect Krasner as Philadelphia DA

Today the Larry Krasner for DA campaign announced that UNITE HERE Locals 274 and 634 have endorsed Krasner as the Democratic nominee for District Attorney of Philadelphia. Local 274's executive board voted unanimously on Wednesday night to endorse Krasner for District Attorney, joining Local 634, which endorsed last week. An overwhelming majority of the 4500 workers represented by the two locals live in Philadelphia.

40,000 MoveOn Members in Philadelphia Choose Krasner for DA

Philadelphia members of MoveOn.org Political Action have voted overwhelmingly to endorse Larry Krasner in the race for the city’s District Attorney, with 80% of votes cast in favor of backing Krasner in the seven-way endorsement vote, the group announce today.In the endorsement vote, which ran from Monday to Wednesday, MoveOn members praised Krasner’s progressive record on criminal justice and racial justice.

“MoveOn members are proud to join Color of Change and dozens of other national and local progressive groups endorsing Larry Krasner,” said Matt Blizek, elections mobilization director for MoveOn.org.

Democratic candidates for Philly DA discuss police shootings and stop and frisk

The seven Democrats seeking to become Philadelphia’s next district attorney spent Thursday evening talking about regulating and prosecuting the city’s police officers. Three of them, speaking in a forum aired live on WHYY-FM and WURD 900-AM and cosponsored by the Philadelphia chapter of the NAACP, were asked if they would prosecute cops for illegal on-duty shootings.

Civil rights lawyer Larry Krasner, who has spent decades filing lawsuits against the city in police misconduct cases, said too many prosecutors are “too cozy” and too politically ambitious to pursue those cases. Krasner vowed to do just that. “I agree there are a ton of great cops in this city,” Krasner said. “And you know what they hate? They hate bad cops.”

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Philadelphia’s District Attorney election arrived on the national stage this week as the progressive grassroots group Democracy for America (DFA) announced its endorsement of civil rights lawyer Larry Krasner.

In backing Krasner, DFA joins Our Revolution, which evolved out of the Bernie Sanders campaign, and Color of Change PAC, the political action committee affiliated with the national civil rights advocacy group Color of Change. Both groups announced their support for Krasner on Thursday.
